Deck Rehab in Manheim Township, PA: New Dasso Bamboo Decking

We recently finished a deck rehab project in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, PA. This one was a little different from a normal deck build.

The deck did not need to be torn down and replaced. The main structure was still in good shape. But the old wood deck boards were worn out and ready to go.

The homeowner came to Lancaster Fence & Deck through a personal referral. We love getting jobs this way. It means someone we have worked with trusted us enough to give our name to a friend or family member.

Starting With the Old Deck

The first step was removing the old wood deck boards.

Once the boards were off, we could get a good look at the deck framing below. This is an important part of any deck rehab or deck resurfacing project.

You don’t want to spend money on nice new decking if the frame under it needs work.

The existing deck frame was worth saving, but we wanted to make it stronger before installing the new decking. We added more joists to the deck to give the new boards better support.

This gave us a strong base for the next part of the project.

Installing Dasso Bamboo Decking

Instead of replacing the old boards with regular pressure-treated wood, the homeowner chose Dasso bamboo decking.

Dasso bamboo decking gave this deck a whole new look. It has the warm look of real wood and was a great fit for this home.

Once the new decking went down, it was hard to believe it was the same deck.

The old, worn wood boards were gone. In their place was a clean new outdoor space that the homeowners could enjoy again.

Does an Old Deck Always Need to Be Replaced?

No.

This project is a great example.

Sometimes the frame of an older deck is still in good shape. If it is, we may be able to repair or reinforce the frame and replace the decking instead of building a whole new deck.

Every deck is different, though.

Before we recommend a deck rehab, we need to look at the frame, joists, posts, beams, and other parts of the deck. If the structure is in good shape, resurfacing the deck may be an option.

If it isn’t, a new deck may make more sense.

Our goal is to help you figure out which option is right for your home.
